You made it!
4 months ago we come out with this weird idea of turning AirTag into a stealth bike tracker. We had no clue whether it will work and our market survey shows there are almost no similar offerings out there. We thought it represents an opportunity for us to come out with a well-designed product and lead the way. The scary part is what if we are wrong? What if this is not a viable product, thus no "competitor"?
We took a plunge and go ahead with the prototyping anyway. Knowing if we fail, we fail fast and learn from it. First, we started to sound out the idea to people that are familiar with AirTag and the bike industry in general. We even reached out to folks on YouTube that create similar content for advice. Their feedback was extremely constructive and helped shape the product features in the early stage: discrete, soundproof, secure, safety.
Just when we thought we got the perfect product, our favorite people - you, the Kickstarter backers gave us even more useful ideas. The most significant one is the black reflector on black TRACE. Once we tried it out in the rendered image, we knew you are right. The black reflector looks so much better! Again we went into overdrive to update the product info and communicate with suppliers to cater to this change.
Today, we are proud to end the campaign at with 1502backers. And yes, you made it possible! We are incredibly grateful of your support and trust to embark on this journey. THANK YOU!
Fulfillment surveys (BackerKit) in the next few weeks
For those of you who are first-timers to Kickstarter, you may be thinking "ok, what now?" Well, for the next few weeks, you don't need to do anything. Sit back and relax. In a few weeks (sometime in Nov/Dec) we'll send out a fulfillment survey to the email you registered with Kickstarter. In those surveys you will be able to do the following:
1. Tell us where you want your rewards shipped (it needs to be the same country you chose in the pledge).
2. Pick the color of TRACE you want (Black or White).
3. Choose which add-on items you want.
4. Add-on additional TRACE to your reward shipment (at Kickstarter prices).
5. Add-on other Hellomaco products to your reward shipment (at a special discount).
We send those surveys out using a service called BackerKit. When we send out the surveys, we will post another update here as a reminder.
What if I missed the campaign?
After our Kickstarter campaign has finished, we have some people who reached out that they have missed out on the pledging period. Therefore, we have created a campaign on Indiegogo InDemand to continue taking pre-order. Fret not, you are our priority and we want to be fair to you who have backed us earlier on Kickstarter. Our Indiegogo campaign will have a later delivery date and also the prices are higher than the Kickstarter prices that you have pledged.
When will stuff ship?
We expect to ship all rewards in Feb 2022. We are working to reduce the lead time and if there is any good news we will share it in future updates.

Black on Black is ON!
A few days ago we asked if you would like to have black reflector on black TRACE. Initially we were worried that backers may not have time to answer every little question we had, but how wrong we were... within 4 days, we received more than 200 feedback! And yes, we heard you loud and clear, black on black! This is the beauty of crowdfunding projects, we are continuously validating ideas and growing with the community that cares about quality products.
Due to the overwhelming response, we decided to close the survey early and make the change now. For the next few days, you will see some contents of the project modified to reflect that. We may not have the time to change the entire Kickstarter content but rest assured that you will get black reflectors if you choose the black TRACE. And White TRACE will still have white reflectors. Both colors will be 3M made, we are still evaluating the available black reflector series.

Early Production Kickoff
With the TRACE over 1500% funded, we decided to bring forward the production tooling process. The idea is to speed up the delivery schedule by about 2-4 weeks. It requires Hellomaco's own funding but we just can't wait to see bikes rocking the TRACE on the road!

We are heading into the final week of the campaign. Having black and white reflectors does bring the tooling cost higher and double the reflector MOQ. We are hoping you can help us end the campaign on a high and alleviate some of the funding pressures. The "Goodies for Sharing" drive is still valid. Whoever that helped share our campaign on social media or emails will be entitled for a free reflector (color will be depending on the TRACE color you choose later in Backerkit). White or Black Reflector? Hellomaco Rebranding, Our First Logo

Black or White?
We have been gathering quite a few feedback on black TRACE should comes with black reflector (instead of white), while white TRACE should stay with the white reflector. Personally we think it is a great idea, and black reflector does blend in better on a black TRACE. We respect your choice and thus would like to have a vote on this:
Option#1. Black TRACE with White reflector (like what you see in the Kickstarter video)
Option#2. Black TRACE with Black reflector, rendered images as below.
You can vote by reply to the comment in this update. Please do not email/message us about it as we may miss it. We realized that many of you backed the project on black TRACE with white reflector. So we set a few criteria before we go for Option#2 (black TRACE with black reflector):
Criteria#1: Vote for Option#2 must be more than Option#1 (obviously)
Criteria#2: At least 100 backers participate in the vote
The vote will end on 26th Oct, 3 days after campaign ends, to give sufficient time for new backer to participate in it.
Hellomaco and new logo
8 years since we started the journey with Kickstarter, we are excited to announce that we are rebranding the company as Hellomaco. And Maco Trace is renamed as TRACE. Why, you ask? We realized Hellomaco is more inclusive for our current and future offerings, whereas Maco was directly associated to magnetic cable organizers. Besides, we also faced some pushback from Apple as they claimed Maco is somewhat similar to MAC (still don't think it has any resemblance, but we risk running into costly lawsuit which detrimental for humble startups like us).
On the bright side, we finally come out with our first Logo! A minimal "M" to match our product design language. Some Easter eggs in the logo: A magnet cue that signifies our first product - magnetic cable organizer. An inverted smiley to remind us of staying resilient amidst adversity. And a hidden "3" denotes our original name Three1Design. Let us know what you think!

Dear backers,
We are funded!
We have to say this is a bit of a wildcard project for us. AirTag was just launched in May, and we weren’t sure if cyclists are aware of how good it is compared to conventional GPS trackers. But we took a plunge and trust that Kickstarter backers will like our new idea to fight against bike theft. And 3 hours after launch, we are funded! Since then we have gone from strength to strength, reach 600% funded as of update time. We are overwhelmed by your kind support to make Maco Trace a reality.
Stretch goal?
One of the things we are working on behind the scenes is the stretch goals. And what's better than involving you, the mighty Kickstarter community, in deciding the direction of the product development. We have some rough ideas such as third color for Maco Trace main body to match the seatpost, or add-on a different 3M reflector tape color (personally I like yellow!). However, don't let this limit your imagination, if you have any ideas that can make Maco Trace even better or more interesting product, let us know in the comment!
One favor
And we ask for a big favor from the community: Would you let us know what is the diameter of the seatpost/fold bar for your (or your friends') bike, ebike, scooter, aerofoil – max length in this case? So we can get a bigger sample size to decide if we need to increase the current seatpost compatibility range. It affects the overall form factor, engineering and commercial work so we don't want to take it lightly.

EU VAT on E-commerce
We received some questions from EU backers on if they have to pay additional VAT tax when they receive the items, This is a new law on E-commerce / online purchase in effect since July this year. Rest assured that this is already covered in the shipping fee and you will not be asked for extra payment on top of what you paid in Kickstarter.
